Not a good night for either defence, the neutrals loved it but once again we failed to win at home. Leading scorer Mark Jones was unavailable due to work commitments, so Neil Thomas returned.
We again conceded an early goal failing to deal with a corner on 8 minutes. The lead only lasted 5 minutes as Chris Hartland picked up a ball after the Port Talbot keeper dropped a Sacha Walters free kick and slotted it into the empty net. On 22 minutes a Port Talbot free kick into the box saw a penalty awarded against James Parry, despite his penalty saving record Rory McCreesh unfortunately wasn’t able to save this one. Again, the lead only lasted a couple of minutes, Noah Daley wide left cut in and hit a screamer into the far corner on 24 minutes. Somehow, we got to half time with no further goals. We were still in the dressing room in the early minutes of the second half, a long ball into the box wasn’t dealt with and we found ourselves 3-2 down. Worse was to follow on 51 minutes when we were 4-3 down. Jack Hurley replaced Neil Thomas on 62 minutes and from 35 yards he brought us back into the game with a shot into the top corner with 15 minutes to go. Spurred on by this we forced a corner and now the Port Talbot defence was all at sea, Pat Finneral set up Chris Hartland and from a couple of yards he brought us level on 77 minutes. The game had changed now with Port Talbot hanging on settling for a point but we weren’t quite able to get a fifth which our performance late on deserved. On to Cwmbran Celtic for a season finale on Saturday, hopefully the defence will be aware of its shortcomings in this game and we will see the season out on a high.
